2-CD SETThis release presents the complete original David Raksin soundtrack music to the classic films "The Bad and the Beautiful" (1952) and "Laura" (1944). "The Bad and the Beautiful", starring Lana Turner and Kirk Douglas, was directed by Vincente Minnelli and written by George Bradshaw and Charles Schnee. It won five Academy Awards out of six nominations, a record for the most awards for a movie that was not nominated for Best Picture nor for Best Director. The theme song, “The Bad and the Beautiful”, penned by Raksin, became a jazz standard, as proven by the three versions added here as a bonus, performed by John Lewis, Milt Jackson, and Buddy Collette.The famous Otto Preminger film "Laura" (1944), which starred Gene Tierney and Dana Andrews, also had music by David Raksin (all of which is also included here). The theme song became another jazz standard, and readings by Charlie Parker, Clifford Brown, Erroll Garner, and Don Byas fill out CD2.
