This release presents Ben Webster's 1970 quartet performance in Hilversum, Holland, for the first time ever on any format. Surrounded by local musicians, the legendary saxophonist displays his magic during a program of well-known standards. Webster, who spent his last years living in Europe, would die in Amsterdam on September 20, 1973. Our set, which boasts excellent sound quality, includes one out of only three existing versions of Webster's own composition 'Ben's Little Scheme', as well as his only quartet readings of the standard 'For Heaven's Sake', and Billy Strayhorn's 'Rain check'. He had only previously recorded the latter song with the Duke Ellington orchestra in 1941, Domino.
