A biopic which followed the path of the commercially successful The Glenn Miller Story (1954), the Goodman film (on which the clarinetist was portrayed by Steve Allen) suffered from a bad script and, although it wasn’t a true failure in its time, Benny himself felt a little embarrassed about the way in which his life was represented.
