CLASSIC HITS: QUEEN OF SOUL (NEW CD)
In many ways, Nina Simoneâs music defied standard definitions. Her
classical training at the piano showed through, no matter what genre of
song she played, and she drew from a well of sources that included
gospel, pop and folk. She was often called the âHigh Priestess of Soul,â
but she hated that nickname. She didnât like the label of âjazz
singer,â either. âIf I had to be called somethingâ, she stated in her
autobiography, âit should have been a folk singer because there was more
folk and blues thanjazz in my playingâ. This CD compiles some of Ninaâs
greatest performances ever!
