Don Covay was one of the most overlooked soul singers and songwriters of his generation. He also provided a rich source of repertoire for British acts like Billy Fury, The Kinks, and The Rolling Stones (Mick Jagger was heavily influenced by Donâs singing and performance style). This collectorâs CD presents Covayâs earliest efforts. It compiles 30 remastered tracks, including all of the singles he recorded for a variety of labels (such as Atlantic, Sue, Big-Top, Blaze, Cameo, and Columbia), between 1955 and 1962. He is featured here recording as a soloist under his own name, leading his band The Goodtimers, cutting tracks under the nickname âPretty Boy,â and in collaboration with the doo-wop group The Rainbows (his earliest recordings). These wonderful numbers form the building blocks of Don Covayâs legendary musical legacy.
Recorded between 1955 and 1962.
