Duke
Ellington and Dizzy Gillespie made their only serious collaboration on
February 19, 1959, when Diz participated on Dukeâs Columbia album "Jazz
Party" (Columbia CS 8127), reissued here in its entirety. It also
includes one of the few appearances of singer Jimmy Rushing with the
Ellington band. As a bonus, a live version of âToot Suiteâ and a medley
of Rushing vocals backed by the Ellington band, both recorded at the
Plaza Hotel, in New York, the previous year.
