    This release presents Duke Ellington and John Coltrane’s only recorded encounter ever (Impulse AS30), featured here in its entirety. For the occasion, Trane and Duke were accompanied by the bassist and drummer of their respective groups (who alternated from track to track), Aaron Bell and Sam Woodyard (from Duke’s rhythm section), and Jimmy Garrison and ElvinJones (from Trane’s rhythm section). Four Ellington-related tunes performed by Coltrane at different sessions have been added here as a bonus, as well as the original studio version of “The Feeling of Jazz”, taped by the Ellington band a few months before the Ellington-Coltrane date took place.
