This release contains the complete original LP "Miles Davis and the Modern Jazz Giants" (Prestige PR 7150), which paired the trumpeter with pianist Thelonious Monk and vibraphonist Milt Jackson on most tracks, and with John Coltrane in a quintet version of “’Round Midnight”. Two tracks that complete the legendary session with Monk and Jackson have been added here, as well as two songs from a 1955 Newport Jazz Festival live set on which Miles (who received great praise for his interpretation of “‘Round Midnight”) is joined by Gerry Mulligan, Zoot Sims, and Thelonious Monk.
