This release presents the complete original 1956 LP "Afternoon in Paris" (Atlantic LP1267). Recorded in Paris, it is the only existing collaboration between John Lewis and French guitarist Sacha Distel, as well as with French saxophonist Barney Wilen. Also featured here are the also French Pierre Michelot (with whom Lewis only recorded one more date in Paris in 1950), two members of Lewis' Modern Jazz Quartet, Percy Heath and Connie Kay, and one ex-member, Kenny Clarke, who was living in Paris at that time. Two trio tracks recorded in New York the following year and featuring Lewis, Heath and Kay have been added as a bonus.
