Both LPs were recorded in mid-late 1961, just months before Parker’s untimely death on February 11, 1962 at the age of 36, due to a heart attack provoked by his drug abuse. The 1961 Blue Note sessions were intended to be a comeback for Parker, who hadn’t entered a recording studio in nearly five years.
