LIMITED EDITION CD RELEASEMINI-LP PAPERSLEEVE GATEFOLD REPLICAS WITH OBIINCLUDES 6 BONUS TRACKSWhen I was a kid”, Louis Armstrong says, “I used to go singing around in churches or choirs or on street corners. You’d get four hustlers on a corner who could make a sharp quartet. We’d pass the hat and sometimes we’d make as much as $1.50 a night. That was like $150 a night now.”This recollection places Satchmo’s vocal career ahead of his hornblowing life by several years and means that he has been singing, for pleasure and money, over half a century. Since today his popularity with the general public can be credited even more to his singing than to the trumpet that originally made him a globally known figure, and since the present album is basically a set of vocal performances, it is interesting to note that this thorny, rock-bottomed approach to the use of the human voice predated (and in a sense predicted) similar melodic and rhythmic nuances on the cornet and trumpet.PERSONNEL:LOUIS ARMSTRONG, vocals & trumpetOSCAR PETERSON, pianoHERB ELLIS, guitarRAY BROWN, bassLOUIS BELLSON, drumsChicago, October 14, 1957(**) BONUS TRACKS: Same personnel, Los Angeles, July 31, 1957TRACKS:01 THAT OLD FEELING02 LET’S FALL IN LOVE03 I’LL NEVER BE THE SAME04 BLUES IN THE NIGHT05 HOW LONG HAS THIS BEEN GOING ON?06 I WAS DOING ALL RIGHT07 WHAT’S NEW?08 MOON SONG09 JUST ONE OF THOSE THINGS10 THERE’S NO YOU11 YOU GO TO MY HEAD12 SWEET LORRAINE13 INDIANA (*)14 LET’S FALL IN LOVE (alternate version) (*)15 I GET A KICK OUT OF YOU (**)16 MAKIN’ WHOOPEE (**)17 WILLOW WEEP FOR ME (**)18 LET’S DO IT (LET’S FALL IN LOVE) (**)TOTAL TIME: 79:24(*): Songs from the same session that were not included on the original LP.(**) Same personnel, Los Angeles, July 31, 1957.
