Description
Originally released in 1958, John Coltrane with the Red Garland Trio captures a formative session from Coltrane’s Prestige Records period. Later reissued under the title Traneing In, the album balances extended improvisation with blues-based compositions and interpretations of popular standards.

Recorded by Rudy Van Gelder, the session features John Coltrane on tenor saxophone, Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Art Taylor on drums. Highlights include the extended title composition “Traneing In,” the Chambers composition “Bass Blues,” and the standards “You Leave Me Breathless” and “Soft Lights and Sweet Music.”
