This release contains the complete original album Sharp Edge, one of many comebacks by Howard McGhee in a life sadly marred by drug addiction. This wonderful set showcases him in the dual role of trumpeter and arranger of all of the tunes (he is also the composer of four of them), backed by such well-known sidemen as George Coleman, Junior Mance, George Tucker, and Jimmy Cobb. As a bonus, two live tracks from the same period presenting McGhee in a two trumpet frontline with Kenny Dorham. This is the first time these two rare tracks ever appear on CD.
