One of the all-time giants of the Hammond B-3, Jimmy McGriff (1936-2008) sometimes gets lost amid all the great soul-jazz organists from his hometown of Philadelphia. He was almost certainly the bluesiest of the major soul-jazz pioneers, and indeed, he often insisted that he was more of a blues musician than a jazz artist.

This CD presents McGriff’s complete debut album as a leader, Swingin’ Organ Sounds (Funckler MGSU-9216) / I’ve Got a Woman (Sue Records STLP 1012), which also resulted in his first hits: “I’ve Got a Woman”, “All About My Girl”, and “M. G. Blues”. Five selections from his folowing session have been added as a bonus.
