With the addition of Julian âCannonballâ Adderley on alto sax, the 1958 Miles Davis group was augmented from a quintet to a sextet. The bandâs first studio album was "Milestones" (Columbia CL-1193). The rhythm section was the same as the classic 1956 quintet, with Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums, plus Miles, Cannonball and John Coltrane. Three tracks by the same group but with Bill Evans on piano and Jimmy Cobb on drums have been added as a bonus.
